Last October I had the pleasure of being invited on board a “Rapunzel” styled wedding shoot at the lovely East London venue, Clissold House.
It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve done a styled wedding shoot due to being so busy with other commitments and real weddings, but for this particular one the planets aligned and I was able to say a big fat “yes!”
The brief for this shoot was modern vintage with pastel colours, drawing inspiration from the fairytale, Rapunzel.
I had two models to look after, our lovely “groom” Peter who required standard male grooming for the shoot and our beautiful “bride” Amy who was to have two hair and makeup looks. For Amy’s first look I created a soft and smokey lavender eye makeup with a nude lip and styled her long locks in a braid which I then embellished with beautiful scatter pins.
Her second look was a little more “glam” which saw me intensifying the eye makeup by working some black smoke into the outer edges of her eyelids and along the lash line as well as adding a darker purple lip shade. I then put Amy’s hair into a deconstructed and whimsical updo in keeping with the theme and added a bigger hair accessory nestled into the side.
I meet wonderful professionals all the time but it can be quite hard to properly connect as we are busy working our wedding magic in our specialised area, and above all else, ensuring that the bride is happy, relaxed and everything is running smoothly.
Aside from the prestige of a published feature and receiving the beautiful final images I also find working so closely with such amazing wedding suppliers on these projects is the best way of discovering, learning and enhancing my knowledge and skillset. I not only learn first-hand about the other wedding suppliers involved and the work that they do, but I also learn more about myself and my own work.
Styled wedding shoots encourage my creativity by thinking outside the box as well as encouraging me to learn more about other areas of the wedding industry. They are a great source of education on the latest wedding trends in all departments.
I am lucky to have a fabulous team around me who provide a lot of support and who do an amazing job at helping me serve my clients, however, I do spend a lot of time working by myself with the day to day runnings of the business. This is why collaborating on exciting projects that connect me with other suppliers is such gold dust for me to help serve my clients better and continue adding value in all that I do.
Styled wedding shoots are the perfect opportunity for everyone to work together, get the creative juices flowing and create something really wonderful that is bigger than us individually. And the end result is always very rewarding!
